On Monday 29th June 2020 we began welcoming outpatients to The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre’s new flagship 11-storey Liverpool hospital and less than eight weeks later our first clinical trials patient rang the End of Treatment Bell overlooking the city’s skyline.

Today we'd like you to meet Wayne who you will see around our new hospital in Liverpool wearing a sunflower lanyard. At the age of 45 Wayne was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of Autism Spectrum Condition, and the sunflower lanyard he wears symbolises a hidden disability.

​Cancer treatment for anybody can be difficult, but for someone who has a learning disability or additional needs it can be truly overwhelming. With the support of individuals with a learning disability The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust has created a short film to help patients with learning disabilities gain confidence in attending hospital for treatment.
