Hardworking staff preparing to open a major new cancer hospital in Liverpool were amazed to receive a surprise video message of appreciation from The Prince of Wales.

The face visors, designed to be worn as PPE against the spread of Coronavirus and other infectious diseases, have been donated to frontline NHS workers in the new haemato-oncology ward at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool by staff from the Design Technology and Engineering Department at Neston High School.

A cancer diagnosis for anybody can be difficult, but for someone who has a learning disability or additional need it can be really overwhelming. In celebration of Learning Disability Week 2020 we have launched a short film created to show what the treatment journey for a patient with a learning disability and/or autism attending one of our hospitals for radiotherapy may look like.

Here at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre we have a team of 8 Dietitians and a Dietetic Assistant working as part of our wider Cancer Rehabilitation and Support Team (CReST) to provide specialised support and education to our patients.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre has become the first centre in the world to recruit a patient with a cancer affecting the central nervous system (CNS) to an early-phase clinical trial of a pioneering new therapy.

A major new specialist cancer hospital is set to open in Liverpool on 27th June to play a vital role in the second phase of the NHS response to coronavirus (COVID-19) by providing dedicated capacity for cancer care. The new Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool (CCC-L) will ensure the NHS in Cheshire and Merseyside is well placed to resume normal clinical activity by providing protected facilities for people with cancer, many of whom are particularly at risk if they catch coronavirus.
