Free prescriptions for people with cancer

Prescriptions are free in England* for people with cancer or living with the effects of cancer or the effects of treatment for cancer. Ask your GP practice for a FP92A application form to apply for medical exemption from prescription charges. Your GP will sign the form and you will receive a medical exemption certificate.

The certificate lasts 5 years and covers all NHS prescriptions (including medication for non-cancer conditions). You can renew it after 5 years if you are still eligible. You will need the certificate to get free prescriptions from a pharmacy.

Carers may also be eligible to free prescriptions in some circumstances.

Visit the NHS website for more information about free prescriptions.

*All prescriptions are free in Wales.
