Stephanie Rose - MRI Clinical Specialist

"I’ve always enjoyed science and wanted a career that involved helping people, so radiography really stood out to me early on. I studied at Sheffield Hallam University and found that I loved learning about anatomy and MRI seemed like an interesting path to follow.

Although I went to university to study, there are so many different routes you can take if you want to pursue a career in radiography. You can do apprenticeships, go on placements, or start at entry level as an assistant practitioner before training to be a radiographer.

I still feel relatively new to Clatterbridge, joining the Trust as an MRI Clinical Specialist in August 2023, but everyone has been welcoming and I’ve been surrounded by professionals who are always happy to help. I’m part of a great time and colleagues really have become close friends. CCC has a positive reputation and people only have good things to say when I tell them I work here.

I’m based at Paddington Community Diagnostic Centre which is a new NHS service providing faster access to health tests and scans. It’s a really unique centre, as although a lot of patients come through the door every day, it feels very calm and relaxed. I’ve helped patients who’ve had bad experiences with scans in the past – scanxiety really is a thing! But they have come here and said I’ve changed their perception completely.

Building a friendly rapport, making the experience run smoothly, and helping to alleviate anxiety really are the most rewarding parts of the job. I get a lot of satisfaction from supporting patients however I can and being there for them during a tough time. Even if I only make one patient’s day easier, it means so much to me.

I think that’s what stands out so much about Clatterbridge, the kindness towards patients, and the kindness to each other – everyone really upholds the Trust values."
