Rose Clarke, Staff Nurse

Rose joined the Trust as a Ward Clerk on our CCC-W Delamere ward back in 2016, but her memories of Clatterbridge go back a lot further than that! Rose’s mum, Bernie Wilson, was Ward Manager before retiring in 2018, and she fondly remembers being brought to ward Christmas parties when she was little.

Rose has now followed in her mum’s footsteps, progressing to Healthcare Support Worker, then Staff Nurse on the same ward her mum once managed.

“I saw how much my mum enjoyed her role whilst I was clerking, and decided I wanted to pursue nursing too.

“I enrolled onto an Access Course in Nursing at a local college and was supported by my manager and team at CCC to be able to take one study day a week alongside my clerking duties. I then moved into a Healthcare Support Worker role where I could practice clinical skills.

“After completing the access course I was accepted into the John Moores University to study Adult Nursing and I haven’t looked back!

“There’s such a homely feel at CCC – maybe because it’s been part of my life for so long! Everyone looks after each other and there’s a real sense of community.

“To anyone who wants to pursue a career in nursing here, please don’t be put off if you’re worried you don’t have a lot of experience. I’ve worked my way up from a ward clerk, and know members of my team who started out as housekeepers. People are so supportive because everyone was new once upon a time. You’re buddied up with more experienced staff, encouraged to go on courses, and can always ask for help. CCC is such a good Trust for progression and they really nurture staff.

“I’m so grateful for all the experience I’ve gained so far, and find it so rewarding building relationships with patients – even if people do double take seeing me in uniform instead of behind the reception desk now!”
