Daniel Perkins, Lead Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician

“I really didn’t think when I started at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Wirral in 2016 as a Medical Records Clerk that I’d now be working in Pharmacy!

I found being a clerk was a great introduction to the Trust; getting to know the hospital and having an insight into the different teams across the site. I was in the role for nearly a year before I was really drawn to following a different career path in Pharmacy. I was encouraged to go for a Student Pharmacy Technician role and this allowed me to complete my BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science and NVW Level 3 in Pharmacy Service Skills, resulting in me being professionally registered as a Pharmacy Technician.

I truly appreciate the guidance and support of my colleagues at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. In the space of two years I’ve gone from a Pharmacy Technician, to Higher Level Pharmacy Technician, to my current role as a Lead Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician, which entails dispensing outsourced products, mixing chemotherapy and immunotherapy, accuracy checking of the products that we make, training new starters, and ensuring that we meet our targets as a team.

I really enjoy my role and feel valued by my colleagues. I find Clatterbridge a hugely rewarding environment to work in and I’m proud to work for an organisation that offers so much support to their staff in reaching their career goals.”
