Support for patients - Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has had a huge impact on all our lives, especially those living with cancer, and it’s understandable that you may still have worries. Whether you would simply like a listening ear or have concerns about everyday things like shopping or about your finances and would like some practical advice, there is a range of support available.

Cancer Support Worker Team:

The Cancer Support Worker team at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre are here to provide support during these unprecedented times. They are available from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. The team have a directory of services available if you need any additional support – it ranges from shopping delivery and telephone befriending to prescription collections.

Patients may be referred to a Cancer Support Worker by their doctor, nurse or radiographer. Patients can also refer themselves and get in touch with the team by calling 0151 556 5617.

Cancer Information and Support Centre:

The Cancer Information and Support Centre provides information, advice and practical and emotional support to anyone affected by cancer. There are centres in the reception areas at our Liverpool, Wirral and Aintree hospitals. These are operating on a rotational basis during this time.

Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service:

The Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service is also available to support patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. It offers confidential and comprehensive advice. A Macmillan Welfare Benefits Advisor can assist patients over the telephone to claim benefits they may be entitled to whilst undergoing cancer treatment. They can also offer support with filling in the necessary forms. The service is open Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. Patients can ask their doctor, nurse or radiographer to make a referral or can contact the advisers directly on 0151 556 5228.

Headstrong Service:

Unfortunately our Headstrong Service is currently closed due to social distancing rules. However, the team at the Cancer Information and Support Centre are supporting patients who are experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment and have a range of hats and scarves for sale.

Macmillan Cancer Support:

Maggie’s Wirral:

Located on the grounds of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Wirral, Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support for people living with cancer.
