Get to know Josie

Q. Introduce yourself…

A. #Hellomynameis… Josie and I’m currently studying for my A-Levels. I have been volunteering at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre since the amazing new hospital opened in Liverpool. My main duties include welcoming people to the hospital, meeting and greeting, delivering items dropped off by loved ones to inpatients and ensuring people adhere to the current COVID-19 safety rules.

Q. Why did you choose to volunteer at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool?

A. I chose to volunteer at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool as I enjoy helping people and wanted to gain new experiences.

Q. How do you think your role as a volunteer will contribute to improving patient care?

A. It’s important to be a friendly, helpful and reassuring presence when people come to the hospital as they may feel anxious and worried. I try to help patients feel welcome and answer any questions they may have.

Q. What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

A. Live life to the fullest and take advantage of new opportunities when they arise.

Q. If you were stranded on a desert island what three things would you have to have with you?

A. I would take a limitless supply of drinking water, a boat to sleep on and explore around the island and my rescue dog, Tina.

Q. What would your colleagues be surprised to discover about you?

A. I started my own business in lockdown making and selling organic and vegan bath melts to help support Al-Sabeen Children’s Hospital in Yemen.

Did you enjoy meeting Josie? Well, we have lots of other volunteers you can meet, like Phil and Lauryn.
