Get to know Amy

Q. Introduce yourself…

A. #Hellomynameis… Amy. I am from Warrington, I’m 20 years old and about to go into my final year of university, studying Biology.

Q. Why did you choose to volunteer at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre?

A. I chose to volunteer at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool as I think it is an amazing centre that we are very lucky to have here. The staff deliver excellent patient care and volunteering provides me with the opportunity to assist and support the centre.

Q. Can you describe how you think your role as a volunteer will contribute directly or indirectly to improving patient care?

A. I think my role as a volunteer contributes to improving patient care because of our position at the entrance to the centre – we are there to greet patients as they arrive. Understandably, some patients coming to the centre can be quite nervous – especially if it’s their first time - so having friendly faces at the door ready to meet patients helps put their minds at ease.

We direct patients to the location of their appointment, which avoids unnecessary stress and offers a more streamlined and efficient service to the various departments inside the hospital.

Q. What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

A. The best piece of advice I have been given is to try not to worry about things outside of my control as it will not change the outcome. Also, to take every day at a time.

Q. If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you have to have with you?

A. I would take my family, as we can make the best out of a bad situation!
