Working with Partner Organisations

The Trust works in partnership with a number of NHS and non-NHS organisations to ensure delivery of services across the whole network, in accordance with national standards and guidelines.

In the delivery of services, the Trust works alongside other hospital trusts within the network, both as part of a joint multi-disciplinary team approach to treatment of patients and in the provision of out-patient and day care services within those trusts. Patients may return to the primary healthcare sector after treatment, so the Trust works in conjunction with local healthcare groups within this sector. The Trust works in collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support in the provision of cancer information, and in the provision of clinical services through its Macmillan nurses, doctors and other healthcare staff. The Trust also works in co-operation with the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation on the provision of nursing services for this disease.

The Trust hosts the Merseyside & Cheshire Cancer Research Network and the DH National Cancer Statistics group.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is situated on the Clatterbridge Hospital site, and works with other organisations on this site (e.g. Wirral Hospital Trust, St John’s Hospice) on the management of the site and on the provision of cross-trust services and facilities.

The Trust provides services in collaboration with volunteer groups, both within and external to the Trust. Shop and coffee bar facilities for patients and visitors are run by the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS).

Academic Partners

The Trust has a number of academic partners, both for educational purposes and for research and development.

The Mersey Deanery of Liverpool University provides training placements for junior doctors, and the School of Radiography is linked to the Trust to provide training for therapy radiographers. The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre also has a Clinical Education Department which offers a number of professional development and education courses for nurses and allied health professionals including validated modules, study days and short courses. Validated modules are offered in association with the University of Chester and Liverpool University. A number of clinicians hold honorary posts with Liverpool University.

Research partners primarily include Clatterbridge Cancer Research and the University of Liverpool, as well as other academic and NHS institutions both in the UK and beyond. These partnership and co-operative arrangements are detailed within the Trust’s Annual Research Report which is available from the Publication Scheme Co-ordinator.
