Oncology Social Worker

The Oncology Social Worker is based at the Centre Monday to Friday and works as part of the Cancer Rehabilitation and Support Team.

They provide support and advice to patients and their families attending the hospital either as an inpatient, or an outpatient. For example, they will liaise with the Community Social Services Department, other local authority services and voluntary agencies, and advocate on behalf of the patients who need care packages at home, residential/nursing home care, intermediate care, or have other problems at home.

They also provide social and emotional support to the whole family. Advice is available for patients who have children and young people, who may need help or information when their parent is attending for treatment. Advice on bereavement care and services is also available.

The Oncology Social Worker can be contacted on 0151 556 5149. During weekends and Bank Holidays a trained oncology nurse is available to answer any queries and can be contacted on 0151 556 5000.
