World Cancer Day 2020

Posted 4th February 2020

Today, Tuesday 4th February, is the 20th anniversary of World Cancer Day, a global initiative to raise worldwide awareness. This year’s World Cancer Day theme ‘I Am and I Will’ is all about you and your commitment to act through positive actions.

2020 is set to be a landmark year in The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre’s history with the opening of Liverpool’s first cancer hospital and in honour of World Cancer Day we are sharing the positive actions we are making to transform cancer care in the region.

While one in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, it’s a tough reality that in Merseyside & Cheshire the number of deaths from cancer is 20 percent higher than the national average.

The challenge of cancer to us in the North West is significant and we are facing it head on by building the best possible future for people in our region.

We serve a population of 2.4 million people in Merseyside, Cheshire and beyond, caring for over 30,000 patients each year with our extensive network of clinics across 18 sites providing highly specialist cancer care.

By expanding our services with the opening of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool, we’re shaping the future of cancer care for the better because people in our region deserve the very best cancer treatment.
