"We realise that this might be a worrying time for our patients

As COVID-19 restrictions in England lift, Acute Oncology Nurse Consultant Alison Taylor has this reassurance for patients who might be feeling anxious or worried about what this might mean for them.

“On Thursday 24th February 2022, the Government will lift all remaining COVID-19 restrictions in England.

“Whilst many of us have craved the normality that this will bring to our lives, at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, we realise that this may be a worrying time for some of our patients. People with cancer are some of the most vulnerable to infection, as treatment can affect the body’s immune system, making it harder to fight off illnesses.

“We’d like to reassure our patients and their families that at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, your safety remains our top priority. The measures we have in place to protect our patients and staff from COVID-19 and other infections, will remain.

“You’ll still see all our staff wearing masks around our three centres. You’ll also be asked to wear one too, unless you’re exempt, for your own safety and that of others. Hand gel will be available throughout our centres too.

“Our cafes and waiting areas will still encourage social distancing. And if you’re eligible for a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, you’ll have recently received a text from us with details of how to book your appointment. We would encourage you to book your appointment as soon as possible; the vaccine is our best protection against getting seriously ill with COVID-19.

“As well as worrying about your personal safety, you may also be feeling emotional about all these changes. This is completely understandable and we have people here to provide support if you need it. Your dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is always on hand to talk to you about any worries or concerns you may have. You can also contact one of our Cancer Support Centres in our Liverpool, Aintree or Wirral sites. Just pop in to speak to a member of the team or call 0151 556 5570.

“Please be assured that The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre will continue to provide a safe and positive environment for you to receive your care and our teams are always here to support you.”
