Update on our new Cancer Hospital in Liverpool

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is currently embarking on a journey to transform cancer care in the region with the building of a major new specialist cancer hospital in the heart of Liverpool.

We have recently received the target cost submission from building contactor Laing O’Rourke and the Trust, together with its advisors, is currently reviewing its contents in conjunction with Laing O’Rourke which is a typical process in a scheme of this size.

It is important that the final costs we agree with the contractor represent value for money for the Trust and for the taxpayer and so we do not intend to instruct further work until we are confident that we have agreed a figure which delivers this.

Since the Trust took possession of our city centre site in Liverpool in August 2016 Laing O’Rourke have been undertaking site investigation and clearance works. They were subsequently instructed to undertake the first phase of piling and to move forwards with site set up.

This work has now largely been completed and the piling equipment has therefore been removed from the site, however site cabins and welfare facilities remain in place.

Whilst the Trust and its advisors are reviewing the costs a pause in the process may be required and if it is the Trust will do everything possible to keep this to a minimum.

We look forward to beginning building works on our first class cancer hospital as soon as possible.
