1,000th prostate cancer patient registered on Patient-Directed Open Access (PDOA) service

Posted 23rd August 2022

In 2019 a Patient-Directed Open Access (PDOA) service was introduced at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre for patients with prostate cancer. The service recently reached the milestone of having 1,000 registered patients.

The PDOA service allows patients to self-manage their care and monitor their PSA blood results after radiotherapy.

Patients can access support when they have symptoms and side effects, meaning they don't have to attend routine outpatient appointments. The Prostate Cancer Team review blood results at fixed points and contact patients if there are any concerns.

Patients on the PDOA service are provided with secure and confidential access to an internet resource called MMR Online, where they can view test results, message the Prostate Cancer Team and access information on living with or after prostate cancer.

Assistance is offered to patients less comfortable with technology and they can choose to use the service with paper communication if they wish.

Congratulations to our brilliant Prostate Cancer Team (pictured below) for making this service a success!
