New Deputy Chief Nurse appointed to Trust

We’re delighted to announce that Lindsey Dawson will be joining The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in the new role of Deputy Chief Nurse on 5th December.
Lindsey qualified from Salford in 1999 and has specialised in cancer nursing for the last 22 years. She began working as a senior staff nurse on a haematology ward in 2000 and over the next few years was promoted to junior sister and ward manager. In 2008 she became a CNS where she was responsible for setting up a local chemotherapy service in Oldham, allowing patients to be treated much closer to home. From there, she worked as an ANP, Nurse Consultant and Lead Nurse in chemotherapy specialising in breast, colorectal and haematology cancers and was also intrathecal lead.
In 2018 alongside her clinical role, she was appointed as Clinical Lead for Chemotherapy Services at the Northern Care Alliance, a large trust that covers Salford and the north of Greater Manchester. Last year she moved to Stockport Foundation Trust as Associate Director of Nursing for Cancer where she had strategic oversight of all cancer nursing in Stockport and is also the lead for personalised care and TYA. She has a BSc in cancer care and a master’s in advanced practice in cancer and is also an honorary lecturer for pre- and postgrad students at The University of Salford.
Although she has mainly worked in Greater Manchester, Lindsey spent several weeks at CCC-Wirral in 2003 while doing her specialist chemotherapy training at Chester University and has good memories of her time with us. She was particularly attracted to this role and the opportunity to work at CCC for a number of reasons, including the fact we are a tertiary cancer centre and the superb facilities and care we provide.
The post of Deputy Chief Nurse is a new one at CCC and follows a review of our senior nursing structure which now comprises Julie Gray as Chief Nurse, Lindsey as Deputy Chief Nurse and Karen Kay as Associate Chief Nurse.
Speaking of her appointment, Lindsey said: “Cancer is what I have done my whole career and where I have always wanted to make a difference to patients. Clatterbridge is a tertiary cancer centre with fantastic facilities and big ambitions for continuing to improve cancer care and cancer outcomes and I am excited about helping to achieve those objectives. I can’t wait to get started and am looking forward to working closely with all the staff and becoming part of the CCC family.”
Chief Nurse Julie Gray said: “Lindsey has a fantastic range of experience and significant achievements in specialist cancer nursing, both clinically and in leadership roles. I know she will bring her warmth, energy and commitment to nursing staff and to outstanding patient care to her new role at Clatterbridge.”
