Volunteers play a vital role here at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. An extension of our expert team of staff, our volunteers enhance the experience of our patients and their families across our three hospitals.
With the recent opening of our new Liverpool hospital we have recruited lots of people to join our team of volunteers. Over the next few weeks we’ll be introducing you to a few friendly faces you may see whilst at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool, like Rudy a postgraduate business student at the University of Liverpool…
Get to know Rudy 
Q. Introduce yourself…
A. #Hellomynameis Rudy. I am a postgraduate business student at the University of Liverpool. I am originally from India and am 23 years old. I really enjoy a good conversation and am passionate about helping others.
Q. Why did you choose to volunteer at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool?
A. I was told of my grandmother being diagnosed with cancer after I moved here to Liverpool. As I am unable to look after her, I want to make some sort of a difference by helping anyone and everyone I can. It’s also an opportunity to make new friends and widen both my perspective and my network.
Q. How do you think your role as a volunteer will contribute to improving patient care?
A. I think the most important contribution from my side is to help reduce the stress and anxiety of both patients and their family members. I think having a friendly face around helps a lot.
Q. What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
A. My dad once told me that ‘we rise by lifting others up…
Q. If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you have to have with you?
A. Unlimited water, sunscreen and a satellite phone so I can call rescue when I’m bored of the sand dunes! If it wasn’t for three ‘things’, I would take my three best mates along so it felt like a vacation.
Q. What would people be surprised to discover about you?
A. That I am the first person from my family to go abroad. I have never been anywhere outside my country until I moved to Liverpool, yet I made a mark because I am super friendly and helpful.
