Liverpool's cancer experts celebrated as we thank staff in dedicated excellence awards

Specialist staff from across The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust have been thanked for their dedication to patient care at the organisation’s annual awards ceremony which highlights and applauds the hard work and commitment of staff working to care for people with cancer from across Cheshire, Merseyside, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
In a quote from one nomination, “they go beyond the medicine” and with over 200 nominations, seven outstanding winners were announced at the ceremony which took place on Friday 14th October:
Unsung Hero of the Year (Clinical): Dr Anna Olsson-Brown, Consultant Medical Oncologist
Unsung Hero of the Year (Non-Clinical): Neal Jones, Business Intelligence Development Lead
Patient Experience Award: Marina Dalglish Team – Aintree.
Spirit of Clatterbridge Award: Laura Jane Brown, Acute Oncology Senior Project Manager
Team of the Year (Non-Clinical): Business Intelligence Team
Team of the Year (Clinical): Inpatient Care Team
Lifetime Achievement Award: Professor Sun Myint, Consultant Clinical Oncologist
Dr Liz Bishop, Chief Executive of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Our annual awards are a real opportunity to come together and celebrate the incredible work that takes place across our Trust every single day.”
The award categories look for people who go above and beyond in their roles to provide specialist cancer care and treatments to 2.4 million people every single year.
The Marina Dalglish team based at Aintree, who were crowned the winners of the Patient Experience Award, were nominated by someone currently receiving treatment on the unit. The person who nominated them said: “The Marina Dalglish Team have supported me through my cancer journey, from bringing me tissues when I have broken down and consoling me to spurring me on when I have been frightened and when I felt I couldn’t continue. They have supported me throughout the entire process medically and holistically and the nurses have been phenomenal.
“Their advice has been wonderful from make-up tips, creams, fake eyebrows and shampoos when my scalp was sore. These small things are massive when you feel like cancer has stripped you of yourself. They go beyond the medicine when you need that emotional boost to get you through.”
The awards ceremony were supported by Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.
