Let’s Go Green for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

Posted 24th January 2018

It’s time to Go Green for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity and transform cancer care for people in the region.

Our annual fundraising drive takes place from 3rd-11th February and there are lots of ways you can get involved.

Schools might want to hold a green day where pupils pay £1 to dress in green for the day, or bake green cakes.

Businesses can do the same, or workers could also tip green gunge on their boss – for the price of a generous donation of course.

Let’s Go Green is part of an appeal to raise £15 million towards the building of a new specialist cancer hospital in Liverpool city centre and improvements to the Wirral site.

Last year’s inaugural Go Green week was a huge success. Buildings including St George’s Hall and the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool, Birkenhead Town Hall and the Eastgate Clock in Chester were lit up green to mark the occasion.

Celebrity Everton fan Speedo Mick donned green trunks in 207 to join in the fun and famous names like Olympic hockey hero Sam Quek and Britain’s Got Talent star Beau Dermot supported the appeal.

This year more buildings are planning to turn green and we will be encouraging people to tweet their support using the hash tag #letsgogreen and posting pictures of themselves wearing green, sporting green wigs or even enjoying a spot of face painting.

You can then also text CURE to 70111 to make a donation of £4.

Katrina Bury Head of The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity said: “Last year we were delighted by the response to the first Let’s Go Green week. This year will be even bigger and better. It is a great way to have fun while raising money to transform cancer care in the region.

“One in two of us will develop cancer over our lifetime so this new hospital is vitally important for the people of Merseyside, Cheshire and the surrounding areas.

“We are only going to get one chance in our lifetime to build a brand new facility like this.

“We hope everyone will get behind us by going green and help to build a cancer hospital that we can all be proud of.”
