International cancer experts share knowledge in Wirral

A delegation of international cancer experts are meeting in Wirral today (24th February) to share knowledge on the latest scientific developments in radiotherapy.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is hosting a four-day course on radiobiology and Radiobiological Modelling in Radiotherapy – aimed at developing expertise on using radiobiological models to plan the most effective treatment possible.

Around 60 oncologists, medical physicists and university researchers will attend the event at the Leverhulme Hotel in Port Sunlight.

Now in its eight year, the course attracts interest from across Europe, the USA, Canada and Australasia.

Prof Indrin said: “This course brings together world-renowned experts on the role of radiobiological modelling in improving outcomes for cancer patients being treated with radiation therapy.

“The course features both didactic sessions as well a “hands-on” component, in which attendees will be able to observe how radiobiological tools can be used to increase the treatment planning efficacy.

“The course offers a great service to the radiotherapy community and the organiser, Professor Alan Nahum and his team at Clatterbridge are to be applauded for their efforts in organising this annual event.”

Event organiser Professor Alan Nahum from The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre added: “The course provides a greater understanding about both the basis of radiation treatment for cancer and the use of radiobiological modelling in evaluating and improving treatments.

“This event brings together some of the world’s leading experts in a specialist but increasingly important subject area – for this reason it attracts global interest.

“We are honoured to have esteemed colleagues taking part in the event, in particular Professor Michael Brada who was recently appointed as Chair of Radiation Oncology at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

“Prof Brada is an international lung cancer specialist and one of the world’s leading researches in the treatment of brain, spinal and ling cancers.”
