Everton go green for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

Posted 30th January 2017

Everton in the Community will mark its 29th birthday at the Blues’ home fixture against Bournemouth this weekend, by celebrating its unique relationship with The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

The two charities will be coming together on World Cancer Day to help kick-start The Clatterbridge Centre’s Let's Go Green Campaign, as well as recognising EitC’s work in the local community for almost three decades.

To mark the occasion, players will be warming up in a mixture of both charity’s t-shirts and fans will be able to get their hands on the joint venture scratch-card, which is hoped will help raise £90,000 over three years to help build a new specialist cancer hospital in the heart of Liverpool.

Sales from the unique scratch card will go towards ensuring patients have access to even better, safer care, in the city’s new purpose built cancer hospital, as well as offering supporters the chance to win over £27,000 in prizes and supporting Everton in the Community.

Staff members from across all areas of the Blues’ charity will also be making their way pitchside, before the teams are led out onto Goodison Park by twenty EitC participants.

Katrina Bury, Head of Charity at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, said: “We are delighted to be part of such a significant moment in the history of EitC and to be working in partnership raising funds for our brand-new cancer hospital in Liverpool.

“We are launching our Appeal to raise £15m towards this much-needed facility at the game, on World Cancer Day. We are proud to be working alongside Everton who are raising money for the Appeal through the sale of scratch cards and are grateful for this opportunity to get our message out to the fans on the day.”

Phil Duffy, Executive Director for Everton in the Community, said: “It really does mean a lot to us to be celebrating our 29th birthday with the fans next week. This is a chance to not only raise awareness of the charity but to also thank our fans, staff members and participants for their continued support over the last 12 months.

“The charity is proud to work with local people every day of the year, to help not just change lives but also save lives through the power of football, across a range of areas including: health, youth, fundraising, sports, employment and education.

“We’re delighted to be able to support The Clatterbridge Centre with their upcoming ‘Go Green’ campaign. We hope that together we can make a difference to people in Merseyside and beyond, living with cancer.”
