Dr David Husband RIP

It is with the greatest sadness that we share the news that Dr David Husband - who was a Consultant Clinical Oncologist here specialising in CNS and head & neck cancer until his retirement in 2020 - passed away last Thursday night (17th November 2022).
Dr Husband was an important and well-loved part of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre family for 35 years. He famously had a wicked sense of humour and made an enormous contribution to the Trust over that time, both as a clinician renowned for his expertise and compassion and as a senior medical leader.
Dr Husband joined The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in 1985 as a Registrar and became a Consultant Clinical Oncologist in 1992. He was highly regarded for introducing innovative new treatments (including stereotactic radiosurgery) ahead of many other centres.
He also played a significant role in medical education and training at the Trust, supporting many trainee oncologists in his time here who benefited from his extensive background knowledge of general medicine as well as oncology.
Dr Husband was always willing to get involved and made major contributions to cancer care more widely through additional roles outside his clinical practice, not least as our Medical Director from 2000 to 2012.
Outside of work, he loved walking, birdwatching and getting away from it all on holidays in Scotland and the wilds of Northumberland. He also adored gardening.
We are deeply saddened by the news of his death. He was hugely respected and will be remembered with great affection and gratitude from all of us at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and the many thousands of patients and families he helped over the years.
