Consultation on services at Liverpool University Hospitals

We work closely with our colleagues in neighbouring hospitals including the surgical teams in Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Aintree University Hospital. Many of the people who are referred to us for cancer treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy have previously had cancer surgery at one of these hospitals; other patients may be going on to have surgery in the Royal or Aintree after their chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) - the health trust which manages Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and Royal Liverpool University Hospital - is proposing some changes to five of its services: breast surgery, general surgery, nephrology, urology, and vascular care. This includes some cancer surgery in the Royal and Aintree as well as emergency surgery.

The NHS in Knowsley, Liverpool, South Sefton, and Southport and Formby is holding a public consultation about these proposals until 2nd August 2022. You don't need to live in those areas to take part and share your views on the proposals, though - everyone is invited to take part in the consultation.

The proposals aim to enhance care by making the most of the specialist skills, resources and equipment on each hospital site, and use each hospital in the most effective way, both for patients and staff. For example, concentrating breast cancer surgery on the Royal Liverpool site could make the most of the fact that Clatterbridge Cancer Centre - Liverpool is right next door to the new Royal, with link bridges that will physically connect the two buildings.

You can read more about the proposals and have your say on the dedicated 'Future LUHFT' consultation website at http://www.futureluhft.nhs.uk/. You can complete the consultation questionnaire online on the Future LUHFT website or you can ask for a paper copy. The consultation closes on 2nd August 2022.
