It’s time to dig out your trainers and get out for a run to get fit, have fun and raise some funds for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

Clatterbridge has been named as the founding charity partner of the recently announced Aintree Classic at the iconic home of The Grand National.

The famous racecourse will be hosting the one day festival on September 8 with runs over 10K and 5km, as well as a junior run and a family mile.

The Aintree race is part of the Classic Run Series with other races being held at Cheltenham and Newmarket racecourses .

As well as the unique chance to run around the hallowed turf in front of world-famous Grand National landmarks like Bechers Brook and The Chair.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity have signed up as a founding charity partner, so everyone who enters will be contributing to a fantastic cause too.

It is a great opportunity for our supporters to take part in what will be a fabulous event and for keen runners to help us build a new cancer hospital for the people of Merseyside and the wider region.

Runners will be joined by athletics legend Liz McColgan and her double Olympian daughter Eilish as Classic Run Ambassadors. Liz is an Olympic silver medalist and World Champion 10,000-metre star and will be encouraging runners in the 10K race and the 5K fun run on the day.

Classic Run ambassador and European 5,000 metres silver medallist Eilish McColgan, pictured left with athletes Luke Traynor and Michael Rimmer, was at the launch at the race course.

She said: "Runners are always on the look out for a different kind of experience. The Classic Run Series will be just that. I’ll be taking part myself."

Katrina Bury, Head of The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, said: “We are delighted to be a founding charity partner for the Aintree 10km Classic Run Series.

“It will be wonderful to be part of such an exciting event at this iconic Liverpool landmark. We hope as many people as possible take this opportunity to enjoy a unique run while raising funds to help transform cancer care.”

The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is working to raise £15 million towards the construction of Liverpool’s first specialist cancer hospital, due to open in 2020. There will also be improvements to the Wirral centre.
