Cancer journey inspires talented design student

Nikki Pennah is a talented BA honours student studying visual merchandising & promotion design at Hugh Baird college, Liverpool.

For her final honours project she has taken inspiration from her experience of Clatterbridge’s specialist cancer services following her father’s death after a 21 month battle with oesophageal cancer. She aims to raise awareness by using her creative skills to transform a negative image into a beautiful design.

To achieve this Nikki has created a striking retail window display. The backdrop for the display is made up of multiple images of microscopic cancer cells. The cell images have been printed onto acetate and threaded together using vinyl thread. The colour combinations used in the display are the same colours used in the laboratory staining process to identify the difference between a normal and a cancer cell.
