Cancer centre builds on-site PharmaC for patients' benefit

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust has invested around £200,000 in a new on-site pharmacy to help support plans to deliver a more personalised and efficient experience for patients.

The development of PharmaC on the hospital’s site will mean patients will be able to get their outpatient prescriptions at the Centre for the first time, allowing them to manage their healthcare and medicines all in one place.

Patient at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Jeanette Stockley from Port Sunlight, was the first patient to collect her prescription from the new pharmacy, she said: “I’ve only recently started to come to the centre for my treatment and I can’t believe how lovely and plush the surroundings are and how friendly the staff are. Having a new pharmacy on-site is fantastic and just adds to the marvellous service you get; it has already helped to make things a lot easier for me and I can see it will make a big difference for a lot of patients.”

In addition to these specialist cancer dispensing services, PharmaC also offers traditional pharmacy services including a range of over the counter medications and other healthcare products, along with a consultation area to discuss any healthcare related concerns with a pharmacist.

Burhan Zavery, Superintendent Pharmacist at PharmaC said: “We are delighted to open this new service for patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. We are committed to providing the best cancer care to the people we serve and this will make a significant difference to the overall patient experience.

“Patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre have never benefitted from an on-site specialist pharmacy so being able to pick up prescriptions when they are at the Centre for treatment and appointments will make things a lot easier for patients and their families.”

PharmaC, which is a subsidiary of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, is also open to staff and the general public, Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:30pm. From April 2014 it will be open on Saturday’s from 9:00am – 1:00pm.
