Clatterbridge’s Clinical Education department hosts Cancer Care Conference

Last week our Clinical Education department welcomed delegates from across the North West at the Cancer Care Conference in Liverpool.

The event was open to anyone whose role involves treating, caring or supporting people affected by cancer.

The conference programme was curated around the theme of Innovations in Cancer Care, with clinical teams from The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and colleagues from other NHS and health organisations giving presentations about their work.


The presentations from Clatterbridge clinical teams were:

  • An Update on Immuno-oncology, by Trudy-Jane Guinan, Immunotherapy Nurse Consultant
  • Whole-Systems Working: Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression (MSCC), by the MSCC Team
  • Personalised Care and Integration: Working with patients and teams to improve experience and outcomes of care, by Dr Heulwen Sheldrick and Catriona Fleming, Speech and Language Therapists, with Julie Crane from the University of Liverpool and patient representatives
  • An introduction to CAR-T (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cell) Therapy, by Dr Muhammad Saif, Consultant in Haemato-oncology

Presentations by NHS colleagues and health partners were:

  • A Collaborative Approach in Education with Acute Oncology, by Michelle Simon, Acute Oncology Team leader at Liverpool University Hospitals
  • Pre-habilitation in Cancer Care, by Lucy Holmes, Wellbeing Lead at One Wirral Community Interest Company
  • Genomics – How we can improve patient care, by Dr Rachel Hart, Clinical Genetics Consultant at Liverpool Women's Hospital

Between presentations delegates were able to attend mindfulness sessions and review poster presentations from regional NHS organisations. The Clinical Education team would like to thank everyone who attended the conference; particularly those who submitted posters and gave presentations about their work.


The Clinical Education department offers a range of educational programmes such as study days, short courses and academic modules which are aimed at health and social care practitioners and support staff who have an interest in cancer care. Visit the Clinical Education for more information.
