Clatterbridge Cancer Centre receives GDE Digital Leader 2021 accrediation for outstanding digital technologies

Posted 30th July 2021

This week, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre was accredited as a 2021 Digital Leader for successfully fulfilling its commitments as part of the Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) programme.

We’re one of the first trusts in the country to reach our accreditation. Our outstanding Digital Team earned the award through our use of digital technology in transforming cancer care, developing new ways of delivering care in the region.

Our patients and staff have seen huge benefits from the many technologies our Digital Team have implemented over the past few years. For example, our patients can now quickly and easily check in for their appointments in our receptions using our Digital Check-in Kiosks. Inpatients can enjoy free entertainment in their individual rooms or even ask for a refreshment through Companion Wave and Helping Hand.

Our consultants are able to be more time-efficient thanks to Virtual Ward Rounds and Digital Dictation for their clinic notes and all our staff can now access their files from any computer using Tap-and-Go.

NHSX recognised that the Trust has shown consistent progress in improving digital capabilities and that it has met all commitments to achieve the Trust’s digital vision.

Sarah Barr, Chief Information Officer at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Taking part in the GDE programme helped us to develop and deliver our aspirations, opening up doors to innovation and allowing us to share insight and collaborate with digital and clinical teams across the region. We’re delighted to have been recognised with this accreditation and I am so proud of our team.”

Dermot Ryan, Director of Frontline Digitisation at NHSX, said: “I'm really pleased to see that the team at Clatterbridge are demonstrating world class levels of digital transformation that compliment their reputation as a centre for world class cancer therapies.”

Karen Smith, North West GDE Programme Manager and Engagement Lead for NHS Digital said: “I’m really pleased for everyone at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Their digital journey has been incredible and we have been really impressed by the progress made in recent years. The Trust always puts patients at the heart of digital innovation and this has been demonstrated throughout the programme.”
