Head and neck cancer research
Head and neck cancer is a general term that covers many different types of cancer including:
- Nasal and paranasal sinus cancer
- Mouth and oropharyngeal cancer
- Laryngeal cancer
- Oesophageal cancer
- Salivary gland cancer
- Tonsil cancer
- Nasopharyngeal cancer
- Throat cancer
Cancers that are known collectively as head and neck cancers usually begin in the squamous cells that line the mucosal surfaces inside the head and neck (for example, inside the mouth, the nose, and the throat). These squamous cell cancers are often referred to as squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck and are the most common type of head and neck cancer.
There are several clinical trials at CCC investigating diagnosis and treatment options for head and neck cancer. Treatment options include adjuvant chemotherapy and chemotherapy with radiotherapy.
